Drone park
This space is a small courtyard dedicated to the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Rutgers University. The department heavily uses this space and its current conditions do not do the students and faculty justice. The building is full of creative minds and they deserve a space that cater to that creativity while providing a relaxing escape from the lab. The space features lush plantings to bring the outside environment into the courtyard. Ample seating is implemented to accomodate all the students and faculty for activities ranging from individual study to group barbeques. The engineers in this building typically work on amazing projects such as building drones. The courtyard allows for testing these drones with curvilinear play structures.
site plan

This plan illustrates the proposed plantings in its prime depending on season to show its full color potential. It also shows the proposed seating and structures to make this a memorable space. A 3ft tall planter is proposed to surround the entire site allowing for full immersion of nature and modern design in a very brutalist building. Seating is provided along the planters along with curved benches to accommodate the 50 students that are enrolled in the aerospace engineering program.
Play structure
The play structure was designed to take inspiration from light tunnels. At night, it is proposed that the structure is illuminated and creates a light tunnel for the drones. It can also stand as a light sculpture making this courtyard a landmark throughout the building.
